Quinta Luna 2024: bold and potent like never before

Tanta roba, exclaims the Gusti team! The first Olio Nuovo of 2024 just arrived from Frantoio Gaudenzi in Umbria and we couldn’t be more excited.

During our tasting of Quinta Luna Olio Nuovo, Andrea Gaudenzi told us that climate change truly challenged their 2024 harvest. But thanks to his family’s passion and skills, a lot of care, and a bit of patience, Quinta Luna 2024 turned out to be the most potent and bold he’s ever made. Here are the tasting notes from the Gusti team:

NOSE: Unripe almond, freshly cut grass, green tomato, arugula, Quinta Luna 2024 is a real explosion of aromas.

MOUTHFEELQuinta Luna 2024 is so silky that it almost feels chewy. Then, it slips away leaving your mouth clean like every high quality EVOO should do.

BITTERNESS: While being intensely bitter, this new harvest doesn’t hit you with a sharp pungency. Rather, it starts as a pleasant herbal feeling on the tip of your tongue and slowly evolves into a warming and balanced bitterness that coats your palate.

SPICINESSQuinta Luna 2024 ends on a spicy note that gently tickles the back of your throat. This zing doesn’t overpower the beautiful aromas, but sticks around for a super long peppery finish.

The traditional and glorious use of the newest harvest EVOO is fettunta aka a slice of good bread showered with oil. When you have extraordinary ingredients at hand, you don’t need much else!

If you want to cook something more filling and warming, our favorite is this Umbrian fava puree with leafy bitter greens, everything swimming in Quinta Luna 2024, of course.
