Sweets & Coffee

It is often thought that Italians don't eat sweets. While it is true they don't normally end a meal with a rich dessert, Italians tend to take their sweets away from the table...at a pastry shop or cafe. In fact, Italians eat sweets all day long: marmalade or preserves thickly spread on bread for breakfast; a mid-morning brioche with "granita" or a "cornetto" filled with custard or jam; afternoon coffee accompanied by some cookies; and of course there's "gelato" eaten during the evening "passeggiata"..... so , Italians really do have a sweet tooth.

It's no wonder then, that some of the most extraordinary fruit preserves, syrups, chocolate spreads and candies are produced in Italy by master chefs and artisans. They use the best local ingredients. At Gustiamo, we've sought out the finest Italy has to offer --- our way of sharing a bit of "La Dolce Vita" with you.

Numerous cups of espresso get Italians out of bed in the morning. They are also a perfect foil for anything sweet. Roberto Ricci from Rome's Caffe Sant' Eustachio custom blends beans and roasts them in a 60 year old wood-fired machine....part science....part art.

Honey, the world's best known natural sweetener, has been part of the Italian diet since time immemorial. The color and flavor of honey depends on the plants and the blossoms the bees feed on. Our selection of honeys includes rare plant varieties and unusual flavors.
