Seafood

With thousands of miles of beaches, bays and inlets, almost everything that lives in the sea surrounding Italy finds its way to the table.
Life has changed, but for Italians, the religious and cultural significance of the role of seafood in their diet remains intact. Up until 1965, the Catholic Church required that the faithful eat fish on both Fridays and Days of Penitence. The Christmas eve meal is all about fish. It is a tradition for Italian cooks to serve seven different types of fish. In Italian, the meal is known as La Vigilia, or Feast of the Seven Fishes. Explanation for the seven are varied... because it took God seven days to create the world; the seven Hills of Rome; or the symbolism of the seven sacraments in the Catholic Church.
The quality of Italian seafood delicacies such as anchovies, bottarga, tuna, sardines, mackerel is exceptional and often hard to find in the U.S. Gustiamo is happy to offer you the best of the best.
